Quick hint: You get a new motherboard (Apple calls it logic board) you might needs to prune the TimeMachine files. The sparse bundle on the TimeMachine is named “machine_mac-address”. New motherboard = new ethernet card = new MAC address.
I kept running out of disk space on my TimeMachine and when I looked into why it’s because I had my old sparse bundle out.
Setup a samba server just like I normally do. Configured a windows xp professional install to authenticate with the samba server. All pretty routine. But I suddenly was faced with this lovely error message:
WTF! Lots of google and time. Realized what is different is this windows system had IE8 on it.
Off to to
Control Panel->Internet Options->Security->Local intranet
Click Sites
Uncheck Automatically detect intranet network
Check Include all network paths (UNCs)
Click Advanced
Add your samba server to the “Add this website to the zone:”
Took my laptop out of its bag and set it on the desk and it was lopsided. WTF! Looked at the battery and it’s warped! Here is a video snippet of the problem.
